Acupuncture effective on many points

Acupressure

Acupressure works according to the same principles as classical acupuncture. The difference is that no needles are used.

How does acupressure work?
During the acupressure treatment, the acupuncturist stimulates the acupuncture points with their thumbs, fingers, or palms. It resembles a massage but is still different. A light pressure is applied to the points, usually in small rotating movements. The duration and depth of the acupuncture points being stimulated depend on your symptoms. It is important that you do not feel any pain. If you do, always inform the practitioner immediately.

When is acupressure used?

Acupressure can be applied to all conditions for which you would visit an acupuncturist. For example: nausea, headaches, colds, hay fever, sleep problems, rheumatism, stomach complaints, stress, or burnout. Acupressure is often chosen when needles cannot or should not be used. It is also widely used for withdrawal symptoms when someone quits smoking.

Additionally, acupressure is a valuable form of self-care. In consultation with your acupuncturist, you can learn to treat certain points yourself. This way, you can support and maintain the effects between treatments. This increases your own involvement in the recovery process and helps better manage symptoms.

Acupressure for children
Since no needles are involved, acupressure can be a suitable treatment method for (young) children. They often find needles a bit scary. Another advantage of acupressure for children is that they usually do not have to lie on the treatment table but can simply sit on your lap while the acupuncturist applies the treatment.
